Die Cast Designers/ Tool Machinist/ Occupations
Tool machinists, and die cast designers are in high demand. In the northern area of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania there is a large concentration of steel manufacturing and automobile factories. These facilities use die casting machinery which creates demand for these specialized workers. Tool machinists are involved in the finishing of the cast product and quality assurance. Die cast designers make the mould halves that are used to create the product. Technology is ever changing, die casters are now using CAD and CAM computer programs to create products and parts. New automation programs move machinery that once had to be done by hand. Technicians operate computers to monitor machines as they work. Qualities a die caster must have are manual dexterity, physical stamina, technical skills and computer application experience.
